Company History

The agency traces its roots to two well respected insurance agencies with a long history in Kent County. The Fleetwood-Kirby Agency was formed in the 1920's and operated in

Chestertown under this name until William Macbeth (now retired) joined the firm in 1957. At that time the name was changed to Fleetwood-Macbeth, Inc. and remained so until 1968. The Townsend-Kane Agency was organized around the same time. Operating as a corporation from the beginning the agency soon grew to be Kent County's largest insurance firm.

In 1968, the two firms reached an agreement to merge and do business under the name of Fleetwood, Kane, Macbeth & McCown, Inc. In 1971 the agency had outgrown its Chestertown office and moved to a new modern office located just outside of town. The agency remains at this location (now within the town limits) today.

Scott Bramble was added as a producer in 1989 to head the commercial lines book of business. In 1994, the firm merged with a smaller agency operating as Larrimore Insurance. John Larrimore had started his business six years prior, and as a one man operation, had already become a force in the local personal lines marketplace.

In 1988, Dan Zottarelli brought over his experience gained as a dockmaster at a local marina and began marketing all types of marine insurance under the label of "Dockmaster's Yacht Insurance." He still manages that book of business today.

The most recent addition to the production side of the firm comes from Creg Fleetwood. Creg is the grandson of F.A.M&M.'s "founding father" Robert T. Fleetwood.  Creg joined FAM&M in 2003 and is now responsible for Commercial Lines sales and market placement.

In 2007, FAM&M was acquired by Peoples Bank of Kent County.

The agency continues to strive towards its goal of providing the citizens of the Mid-Shore the markets and service necessary to best serve their insurance needs.
